Whiz Kids: Sisters Take On Trash After High Winds Hit Area

These girls don't like litter.

When last week’s high winds ripped through the Manassas area, two Bristow sisters didn’t just watch the storm and complain about all of the litter it tossed around—they cleaned it up. The Mooney sisters—Erika, 14, and Alexandra, 12—voluntarily took trash bags from mom’s kitchen shelf and begana neighborhood clean-up effort around their street and a patch of woods near their townhouse. “I wanted to help because animals need our help. Most of them are dying because of us. They are choking on our trash,” said Alexandra, a sixth grader at Gainesville Middle School, who is also an environmental enthusiast and an aspiring animal control officer.
