Robotics Competition Gets Students Revved for New School Year

Metz Middle School and Manassas Park Middle School students will have a robotics competition Friday at the Manassas Museum.

Students from Metz and Manassas Park Middle Schools will end a week of summer learning on Friday with a little friendly competition.
The robotics expedition/competition, which is from 10 to 2 p.m. at the Manassas Museum, will showcase the skills the students have refined during this week's VEX Robotics Camp.
The event is free and open to everyone.
Eighteen students are participating in the camp  which is designed to help the students build the academic muscle and skill needed to compete against other robotics team.

The 2013-2014 robotics season will feature "Toss Up" a competition form where alliances of two teams compete to score the most points by sending balls into different scoring zones and goals, Manassas city and school officials said.

Educators are hoping the camp and Friday's competition will get the children ready for robotics qualifier competitions in February with the ultimate prize being an invitation to the VEX World Championships in Anaheim, Calif. in April.
