Carmello’s Reopens in Old Town

With a brand new look and a brand new menu, the restaurant officially opens its doors.

Located on Center Street in Old Town Manassas, Carmello’s publicly announced its reopening after months of renovation.

The grand reopening event was held on Tuesday, May 3,  at 4:00 p.m. and consisted of a public ceremony and ribbon cutting on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant.

Owner Alice Pires was accompanied by her son and general manager, Miguel Pires, along with other key stakeholders from the city and Historic Manassas, Inc.

The Portuguese and Italian eatery closed its doors in September of 2010 after an electrical fire ignited in the building’s kitchen ceiling. The fire, though devastating, sparked an idea to renovate the building, and with it bring lots of improvements and changes.

The restaurant, now open to the public, features a new menu with a wide array of cuisines from fish to pasta to pork, chicken and more. Its wine menu serves over 50 choices from not only Portugal and Italy, but Argentina, Australia, Spain, Germany, New Zealand, and of course favorite domestic varieties.

Dinner is served Monday through Sunday and brunch is offered on Sundays. During December, lunch is also available for their holiday schedule on Monday through Sunday.

The restaurant also features live entertainment on the weekend nights and boasts a new bar around its corner, facing Battle Street. The quaint little hot spot called Monza features pasta, salads and sandwiches. It is open all week from 11:00 a.m. to last call and is a perfect location to enjoy happy hour for those getting off the VRE or for folks just strolling around town.

Carmello’s opened its doors quietly in the beginning of April to try to ease back into things, according to the general manager Pires. And since then, they’ve had a great response.

“So far things have been going great. Without making a big announcement or putting any signs that we’re open, we had a great April,” he said.

The restaurant welcomed 600 guests on Mother’s Day.

“We still have a handful of things we have to fix, but so far things are going along nicely. And with the weather starting to get nicer and the patio opening up, we’ll be launching our new brick oven pizza entrees [at Monza] at the end of the month,” Pires said enthusiastically.

A grand reopening ceremony for Monza will be held on Wednesday, May 18.
