A Ruckus: Obstacle Course Tests Manassas Kids To The Max

Small children became small blurs of color moving across obstacles at mach speed Tuesday during the Ruckus Sports mini obstacle course event at the Boys & Girls Club in Manassas.

The event introduces children to the fast-growing sport of obstacle course running while encouraging them to get more exercise to prevent childhood obesity and weight-related health problems later in life.

"It's a fun time had by all," Shawn Henning, operations coordinator for Ruckus Sports said. "As you can tell, they love this; it's something different from what they do everyday."

Some 115 club members participated in Tuesday's event. It's a precursor to a larger Ruckus D.C. obstacle race series on Sept. 28 at the Prince William County Fairgrounds. There, thousands of people of all ages are expected to run the courses, Henning said.

It's a great event for spectators, too, because they will have a clear view of at least 90 percent of the course.

Register to compete in the event at runruckus.com or register the day of the race at the fairgrounds. Meanwhile, Mini Ruckus DC continues Wednesday with an event at the Boys & Girls Club in the District.
