Baby Dies After Premature Birth Due to Car Crash

Baby was born early after a wrong-way crash on the Fairfax County Parkway near Braddock Road.

A baby that was born prematurely due to a wrong-way car crash on the Fairfax County Parkway Sunday has died, Fairfax County Police said.

The baby's parents, a couple from Camp Hill, Pa., were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Inova Fairfax Hospital after the crash north of Braddock Road around 1:40 a.m. As a result of the mother's injuries, the baby delivered early and died around 8 p.m.

Fairfax County Police said that Abraham Aragon, of Soldiers Ridge Circle, Manassas, was likely driving his 1993 Mazda MX3 Coupe northbound in the southbound lanes of the parkway at the time of the crash. Some other vehicles were able to avoid impact by veering away from the car, but the Mazda struck the couple's 2002 Toyota Avalon head-on, police said. Police are investigating if alcohol was a factor.

Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives continue to investigate, and police ask anyone with information to call Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, e-mail at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
