Driver Crashes Car After Police Chase on Route 234

Driver sideswiped another vehicle on Purcell Road, Virginia State Police said.

A Culpepper man crashed his car and fled on foot after leading police on a chase down Route 234, according to Virginia State Police.

Walter Nibblins, 38, is charged with distribution of heroin, one felony count of eluding police and one felony count of hit-and-run.

Virginia State Police began to pursue Nibblins on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., after he did not stop for a trooper on Route 234, near Route 28, spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. About 10 minutes later, Nibblins tried to illegally pass a Ford Escape on Purcell Road, sideswiped it, then crashed in the 12900 block of Purcell Road, Geller said.

Prince William County Police and Fairfax County helicopters assisted troopers in the search after Nibblins fled on foot. Authorities apprehended him about an hour later.

The driver of the Ford Escape, and the three passengers inside, were not injured. Public records show that Nibblins was released on bond Friday. The investigation continues.
