Small Plane Crashes at Manassas Airport

No injuries were reported. Manassas and Prince William County fire and rescue units responded to the scene Thursday morning.

A runway at the Manassas Regional Airport closed on Thursday due to the crash of a small plane, Manassas City Public Affairs Specialist Patty Prince said.

At 9:28 a.m, the pilot, a Fairfax man, was practicing take off and landings in a single engine 2000 Cessna Skyhawk 172S when it crashed while trying to land on runway 16R 34L at the airport, Prince said.

The pilot 35-year-old Sahel Abdulrahim Bader was not injured and the plane sustained minor damage, Virginia State Police said in a release.

Fire crews on the scene were trying to control a small fuel leak, the Manassas City Volunteer Fire Department reported on its Facebook page.
The runway will remain closed until the aircraft can be cleared. The cause of the crash hasn't yet been released.

Units from the City of Manassas Fire and Rescue Department and the Prince William County Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.
