Woman Shot in the Thigh at Her Child's Soccer Game

The victim reported that she was shot at George Hellwig Memorial Park, although no one heard a gunshot and no one reported seeing anyone with a weapon.

Someone shot a woman in the thigh as she was watching her child's soccer game at George Hellwig Memorial Park Sunday afternoon, Prince William County Police said.

The 43-year-old victim told police that she was sitting in a chair and watching the game at the park on Bristow Road in the Manassas area of Prince William County, when she felt a sharp pain to her right thigh.

"At that time, the victim reportedly believed she was struck with a BB or other type projectile," police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said in a press release.

The woman went to a local hospital and doctors determined that she had been struck with a small caliber bullet, possibly a .22 round.

No one heard any gunshot and no one reported seeing anyone with a weapon, Perok said. The woman's injury was not life-threatening. Police continue to investigate.
